Rock’n Solex Festival, May 6th to 10th, 2009.
In 1967, a few friends from the INSA of Rennes organized a solex race. At stake: 2 liters of gas for the 1st, 1 liter of beer for the 2nd and a cold shower for the last.
Since then, this major spring musical event has seen bands such as Arno, Blur, Têtes Raides, Dionysos, Zebda, Franck Black, Ska P, Le Peuple de l'Herbe, Tiken Jah Fakoly and Mass Hysteria come and go. In 4 years, Rock’n Solex established itself as the 2nd most important musical event in Rennes, just after the Transmusicales. Tremendous human adventure for the INSA of Rennes students, the oldest student festival in France still has its best days ahead.
Environmental-friendly approach:
The festival puts the emphasis on traffic control but also on environment as it seeks to reduce at the maximum its polluting aspects.
If the traditional solex race is maintained, "clean" mopeds (using biofuel) will be given value with special race and prize for the most innovating in terms of ecology.
Second idea: have 450 trees planted to offset the 3 tons of carbon dioxid emited by the 150 teams expected to take part to the race.
Last but not least, recycling sorting sites will be held all along the festival, hard plastic cups will replace disposable cups (be careful: 1 euro will be given to those who take their cup back!) and many other initiatives will be taken.
